We can serve neighbors in need because hundreds of caring people across Dane County volunteer their time and talents. With support from a small core staff, volunteers provide the basic-needs help we offer through a range of programs that assist people struggling with poverty. Most importantly, volunteers offer hope and kindness with every interaction.
Most of our volunteers donate time to make sure the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry can serve local households four days per week. Pre-pandemic, pantry volunteers helped with reception, hosting and stocking for our large, customer-choice pantry. Currently, volunteers help sort produce, bakery items and other food, pack boxes and package food for delivery and load cars in our drive-through service. Schedules are flexible, and groups and families are welcome to volunteer time together. Do you want to get your church, club or corporate group involved at the pantry? We appreciate groups of 5 to 10 people serving together for shifts scheduled well in advance. Come help our local effort to grow fresh produce at the Lacy Food Pantry Garden (5897 Whalen Road, Fitchburg). All produce grown here is distributed through our food pantry. Volunteers are key to the success of the garden, which has been around for more than 20 years! No previous gardening experience is necessary, a supervisor is always on-site to show you what to do. Regular work sessions are held Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, May through October. Special work sessions can be scheduled for groups wanting to come at a different time. Families, corporate and youth groups have been an important source of volunteers in the past and are welcome to join us this growing season.Apply NowLearn More

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization leading women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. Based in Catholic parishes, Vincentians gather together in groups called Conferences which focus on spirituality, fellowship and works of charity.
A core group of several hundred people in Dane County serve as local members of the global Society of St. Vincent de Paul. These members join together to grow spiritually by providing person-to-person service to our neighbors in need. All services that our members and other volunteers provide through the Society are offered without regard to the religious beliefs, race or gender of those we assist.
