Donate goods to St. Vinny’s Thrift Stores

St. Vinny’s is the place where furniture is reclaimed, clothing is restyled and artwork is restored! We gladly accept your pre-loved and gently used clothing, furniture, household items and more. Goods donations ensure our thrift stores are well stocked and provide a consistent, reliable shopping experience for all!

Free at-home pickup:

In-store drop-off:

Each of our seven Dane County thrift stores has an outdoor drive-through bay to accept your goods donations. Please do not leave items unattended near the drop-off areas. Around Madison, there are drop boxes that can handle a limited amount of donations.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

In 2018, the tax laws changed, but the good feeling of helping someone else and having a cleaned-out, organized closet, garage or kitchen never changes! Visit the IRS website to help you understand goods donations and deductibility.

Donate food to the pantry

Around 160 families turn to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry each day. It’s hard to succeed in school or work while worrying about having enough to eat or paying the bills.

Currently, monetary donations and personal-care items are the preferred donations to our pantry. Thanks to our purchasing power with vendors, we can use monetary donations to purchase food at the best prices. However, we are in great need of personal-care items such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. Personal-care items should be full-size, unused products.

How to donate items:

Donate medicine to the pharmacy

Each month staff pharmacists, technicians and volunteers fill about 400 prescriptions for uninsured patients using the St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy. Patients receive life-saving medicines from our pharmacy, the only-stand alone pharmacy of its kind in Wisconsin.

The pharmacy procures medicine from a variety of sources, some that are paid for and others that are acquired through participating in commercial and/or publicly regulated programs, donations of medication from healthcare institutions and providers, pharmacies and pharmaceutical manufacturers, and the community too through the state repository program. We accept medicines that are unexpired, properly labeled and stored, and untampered with. We do not accept medical supplies. Please do not remove the medicine label on the bottle.

How to donate items:

Items we can and cannot accept:

We can accept:
  • Unopened personal care products, such as shampoo and lotion.
  • Unexpired, unopened (must be sealed with foil or in blister packs), prescription medicines.
  • Unopened, unexpired over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins and supplements, that have unbroken safety seals.
  • Sealed bandages and wound care products.
We cannot accept:
  • Opened personal care products.
  • Opened, unexpired prescription medications.
  • Expired (outdated) medications. These are waste and should be disposed of according to these rules. In Dane County, visit a MedDrop site.
  • Controlled substances (opioids, narcotics, pain killers). Federal Drug Enforcement Administration rules only allow certain people to possess prescribed controlled substance medications, and do not allow donation. Our pharmacy does not carry these medications at all. In Dane County, visit a MedDrop site.
  • Medical supplies. Many places in Dane County will gladly take durable medical equipment, such as crutches, commodes, wheelchairs, walkers and other goods. Click here for donation options.

Donate your vehicle

If your car, truck, van or SUV is nearing its last lap, consider donating it to help serve local people in need. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has a national program to accept donated vehicles. It’s easy and convenient, and the program includes towing service. Non-working vehicles are accepted. Proceeds from local donations are used to support the charitable work of St. Vincent de Paul here in Dane County. Your vehicle donation may be tax-deductible!
